Discussion Questions:
1. Recall a time (and share if you’re in a group) when listening came slower than speaking and reacting with heat. What happened? What did you learn?
2. Being quick to listen and slow to speak and react enables us to do God’s work, whereas the opposite harms and damages and leaves a trail of wounds. Have you seen the truth to this statement in real life? Explain.
3. How do we get this wisdom James’s gives, or in other words, what heart posture and lifestyle cultivates this wisdom (hint: verse 21)?
4. God’s good word in Jesus sets us free to be people who strain hard to listen rather than speak all the time, and practice patience rather than reacting with heat all the time. How does it do that?
